Narcotics Regulatory Affairs
The term "narcotic" originates from the Greek word "narkos," meaning inducing sleep. Narcotic drugs, such as heroin, morphine, opium, cannabis, and other related substances, fall under the purview of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 (NDPS Act, 1985), and can be manufactured, imported, or exported to and from India only with the permission of the Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN) in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, India. The Indian government has established strict guidelines to ensure that the production and sale of these substances are regulated.
